The theme for the 20th run of this green-thumber’s conference is ‘Where Old World and New World Orchids Meet.’ The hardy yet fragile floral species will be showcased in this 12,000 sq m space, via 60 exhibitors from over 20 countries. There will be displays, landscaping products, services, arts and crafts, and an exclusive sneak preview of the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay before it opens in June next year.

Update:
An orchid has been named after English musician Sir Elton John for his contributions to music. Called Doritaenopsis Sir Elton John, 'the phalaenopsis hybrid (Doritaenopsis I-Hsin Black Jack × Doritaenopsis Ever Spring Diamond) belongs to the Harlequin group and bears nine flowers on each inflorescence. The inflorescences are made up of brilliant flowers that feature distinctive spotting and markings. The striking magenta pattern and large petals, combined with an arresting golden forked lip, make this orchid hybrid an exceptional [conversation] piece.'
Doritaenopsis Sir Elton John is on display until Sunday at the World Orchid Show, where twenty pots are for sale for $280 each.
