An open-air art exhibition featuring elephant statues presented by local artists, charitable organistions and international celebrities such as Rupert Grint, Joss Stone and Leona Lewis – all in the name of raising public awareness and support for elephant preservation
If from November you begin to see pink elephants around the streets of Singapore, it won't be a case of a few too many. The Elephant Parade, which has been staged to much press attention in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, London and other key cities, is in town.
A herd of 150 life-sized art elephants, designed by local celebrities like filmmaker Glen Goei and Singapore-based artists like Ketna Patel, will adorn locations along Orchard Road, Marina Bay, VivoCity, Singapore Zoo, the Botanic Gardens, Raffles Place and The Fullerton Heritage, for two months before being auctioned off by Sotheby’s.
Galvanised by the dwindling elephant population in Asia, Elephant Parade uses art to raise funds for the conservation and wellbeing of the region’s neglected jumbos. Proceeds will be donated to The Asian Elephant Foundation and the conservation fund of Wildlife Reserves Singapore.
