Time Out says

It’s not everyday that you get to hear religious music from different communities all over the world in one place, but the upcoming A Tapestry of Sacred Music, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, will open that door. Religious music is often associated with traditional chants and a sense of solemnity, however this experience will defy such expectations and showcase the beauty of holy music in a way everyone can enjoy, regardless of personal beliefs.

Celebrating its 15th edition since launching in 2009, A Tapestry of Sacred Music has since brought to light the sacred art forms of 56 communities – from African-American gospel music, to ceremonial Japanese sword dances, and Indian hymns played on traditional instruments. In this year’s edition from April 12 to 14, Esplanade will be transforming its performance venues into immersive settings reminiscent of religious spaces. For example, the Forecourt Garden will be converted into a Balinese temple stage, where you can witness the ritual drama of wayang wong and iconic kecak chants up close.

All performances are free of charge, but some will require registration. Find out more and register here.
