Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo

One of the world’s first ‘open concept’ zoos – residents live in landscaped enclosures instead of traditional cages – this 28-hectare attraction is home to more than 4,000 animals, including the world’s largest colony of orangutans, the exotic white tiger and the Hamadryas baboons.

Things to Watch at the Zoo

Elephants at Work & Play
Daily; 11.30am & 3.30pm

After watching their affectionate interaction with their keepers, it’s hard not to find these Thai working elephants endearing. This show reveals the cooperation between these giant mammals and their mahouts during the logging process (Elephants of Asia exhibit).

Splash Safari
Daily; 11am, 2.30pm & 5pm

The jackass penguin, Californian sealion, Caribbean manatees and pelicans star in this show that not only serves to entertain, but also attempts to educate the audience about wildlife conservation and highlight the dangers that marine animals are facing around the world (Splash Amphitheatre).

Polar Bear Viewing Exhibit In addition to providing these marine mammals with an icy habitat, the zoo also releases live fish for the bears to hunt like they would in the wild. An underwater viewing gallery allows you to see just how surprisingly graceful the great white furry beauties can be.

Reptile Garden
Featuring the endangered Komodo dragons outside of Indonesia as well as a selection of marmosets, iguanas and tortoises. If you enjoy cold-blooded animals, this is your Garden of Eden.

Bat Exhibit
Catch some of the world’s largest and smallest bats within the same vicinity – the Malayan flying fox, one of the largest bats in the world with a wingspan of up to 1.7m, and the tiny dogfaced fruit bat, weighing in just between 30 to 100 grams. The Bat Exhibit is located along the Mangrove Walk.

Giant Flying Squirrel Exhibit
The Vietnamese giant flying squirrels are the new kids on the block, in addition to the red and white giant flying squirrels currently residing at their recently revamped habitat. Watch these creatures in action as they glide about 400m off the ground, and even more amazing are the females who are the proud owners of three pairs of mammaries.

no way!
I totally disagree! the zoo here is great and well worth a trip - apart from the polar bears - who need more space the rest is brilliant!
