This shrine was built to honour an Indian Muslim holy man from Chulia who visited Singapore in the early 19th century. Thanks to its striking, palatial design – characterised by 14-storey minarets topped by onion domes – it was given national monument status in the 1970s. But in the ’90s the building was deemed structurally unsound and closed.

Refurbishment has now finished and the shrine is re-opening.
