As you wander around Chinatown, you’ll see many signs for clan associations. But this one, for the Hakka community from eastern Guangdong, is the oldest still-functioning clan building on its original site. It began life as a temple, but gradually took on more functions as a welfare centre, and was rebuilt for that purpose in the late 19th century; later, it was a Chinese school. Inside are historical artefacts and antique furniture imported from China.
