No child dreams of becoming a maid or a construction worker. But driven by poverty and a lack of opportunities, wave of Asians take on such work every year, often away from the support of friends and family. In Singapore, migrant workers clean our homes and help take care of our children and parents. They build the offices and home we live and work in, but we know little of their stories and the dreams that inspire them. Inside Out is a photography project comprising of a series of workshops that teach migrant workers photography skills that will empower them not only to take pictures, but also tell stories through their images. The workshops have culminated in this public exhibition of 40 photographs by migrant workers from the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh and China. The exhibition allows the audience to see Singapore through the eyes of transient workers.
