Coming up: ZoukOut 2008

It’s big and it’s back, despite rumours last year that it may be held elsewhere. ZoukOut 2008, the party of the year, has claimed its rightful place back on the sandy beaches of Sentosa, commencing at sunset. TOS staffers Alexis Ong and Sabrina Lee describe what’s on the horizon for this year.

Nouvelle Vague Nouvelle Vague (pictured right)
When making the band, Nouvelle Vague’s female singers were picked based on how little they knew about the songs they were covering (like new wave classics Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and Depeche Mode’s ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’). It guarantees plenty of improv on top of the boss nova beats.

Henrik Schwarz

If you’re into house music of the German variety, Schwarz will be your soul daddy (he’s a dad in real life, too). Like DJs Âme and Dixon, Schwarz makes you go deep and forget your sleep. Our personal favourite is his remix of ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’, originally recorded by Joe South.

Erol Alkan
We’re big fans of Alkan’s A Bugged Out Mix and assorted side projects, but his live sets can be hit and miss.

Dirty SouthDirty South (pictured right)
This Aussie has remixed songs by Fedde Le Grand, Mark Ronson, Depeche Mode, Spektrum and Snoop Dogg. This DJ – whose real name is Dragan Roganovic – oozes electromagnetism and is very naughty when it comes to throwing a party.

DJ Yoda
This turntablist’s fine-tuned fingers will transform the stiffest partygoer into a head-bopping maniac; he cut and pastes everything from old-school hip hop to beats. Here’s hoping he’ll bring the legendary MC Skibadee along for the party.

ZoukOut tickets are on sale at Zouk (6738 2988, www.zoukout.com), Sistic and HMV.
