1. ‘Smoky Eyes (Dave Robertson remix)’ by Oliver Moldan and Norman Z
Good opening record. It’s not too banging, good groove and sets the scene – and nice beats in the intro.
False Prophet is one of the aliases of Will Brunner. Not many great breakbeat tracks around these days, but he always delivers and I think it might have an illegal sample of an old Slick Rick song.
It’s in a 3/4 time signature, so not many people play it because it’s a bit of a hard one to get out of. It starts off with just the drums but at the end there’s this great rhythm.
It’s an old track; they’re doing a remix album right now and they asked me to choose one. I picked an obscure one because I thought everybody else would be picking big ones like ‘Belfast’ and ‘Chime’.
This one’s quite funny. It’s a full-on techno record, but it’s just got loads of bits of Flash Gordon in it – not the theme tune, but dialogue. You’ll know it when you hear it.
