Bars and nightclubs in Singapore
What's in your stacks? - DJ Samurai
1. ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ by The Gossip (Soulwax Night version) (Back Yard)
I like to rock it up a bit, and this has a terrifi c bass and serious pounding drums you can dance to. There’s a sexy breakdown too.
2. ‘Over and Over’ by Hot Chip (Diplo’s Shake It All Over Remix: bootleg)
Funky, hand-clapping stuff, this remix will get them moving. I imagine a football team would play this in the changing room.
3. ‘Rebirth of Slick’ by Digable Planets (Cool Like Dat) (Elektra)
It’s an obvious old-school classic, but a surprising one to drop, and people love it. No, I mean, luurrrvve it.
4. ‘Labyrinth’ by Vendetta (Sandro Peres Remix) (Substream)
This is very new, but I’ve played it non-stop. Disco-y electro with a dark side, and such lovely Róisín Murphytype vocals too.
5. ‘All My Friends’ by LCD Soundsystem (DFA) For its sentiments, its post-rave ennui, its literate lyrics, and the glorious piano intro. James Murphy can eat satay and it’d sound interesting.
DJ Samurai plays every second Friday at The Living Room, Singapore Marriott Hotel. Contact samuraidj@gmail.com for updates.
