The spanking new venue at One Fullerton played host to Time Out Singapore’s second-anniversary bash and features 8,000 sq ft of floorspace – double the size of its old digs at Robertson Quay. The space is split into two rooms: Fash, a larger extension of the alternative, electro-friendly Art Bar of old, and the main room Bump, which caters to Butter’s faithful core of R&B/hip-hop fans.

I have known Butter in all three of its incarnations, from Cocco Latte, to Butter Factory at Robinson Quay, and now to Butter Factory at One Fullerton. In its pass lives Butter actually played Hip Hop all night, yes, it might have been a bit commercial at times but the DJs always pleased my Hip Hop soul. But now in its latest incarnation, there is no way in hell Butter Factory should bill itself as a Hip Hop club. The music format has gone to crap, which I find slightly funny considering the DJs in the Hip Hop room are the same as DJs that Butter has had since the beginning, so where did it all go wrong? I have gone to the new Butter many times, each time hoping for a return to the original Butter Factory music formula, but each time I have been totally disappointed. So if you are looking for Hip Hop I say give Butter Factory a pass, I know I will.

I use to really love going to Butter for the great music, it was one of the few places you could get Hip Hop. With the new venue the music has changes, i have been on a number of occasions and have been very disappointed, you go to the Hip Hop room and its more like the pop room. I have been there really early when nobody is there and they sometime actual keep it real, but as soon as people start arriving it goes down hill. If you want Hip Hop don't go to butter, they have forgotten how to keep it real, its really quite a disgrace that they call themselves a Hip Hop club.

Honestly, its all just a marketing hype for butter. The music's bad, whats apparently their house genre room played anything from electro to retro mixed techno? Coupled with the extremely long queues for no apparent reason. I'd stick with zouk any given day. Plus Zouk's PR peeps at the door are way friendlier.
