Going back to its roots, Velvet keeps it smooth with its new Balearic Thursdays. Back in the day, the decks of this intimate and exclusive club sampled the lovin’ touch of luminaries like Paul Oakenfold. Since its refurb last year, soul man Norman Jay and father of the Balearic beat DJ Alfredo have resurrected this style made popular in the late ’80s and early ’90s. And while you’re grooving, take time to appreciate the works by pop-culture icons like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Takashi Murakami.

The De La Soul gig at Velvet was simply amazing. Hell, they even started poppin and lockin while rappin. They really got the crowd going and everyone was in high spirits. I think it's quite safe to say that hip-hop's not dead. I wonder how Velvet's gonna top this one. If they bring in other hip-hop greats for Bleedin' Gums, my soul will be well fed. Holla!
