Not many places in Singapore offer you a chance to lie back on a deckchair (albeit a slightly flimsy plastic one) right by the river while you take swigs from a mug of cold beer. But at this very casual hangout you can do just that. Run by the Robertson Quay Hotel, this oddly named beach bar is exactly how an unpretentious, unfussy beach bar should be – the only problem is that it doesn’t quite have anything remotely resembling a beach next to it. But hey, who are we to complain? It’s a relaxing spot away from the hustle and bustle of Clarke Quay, which is just a stone’s throw away, and a decent place to watch the sun set behind the condos around the neighbourhood. If beer is not your thing, try their surprisingly well-mixed Singapore Sling. But don’t blame us if you get mistaken for a tourist.

The name "beach" bar is misleading, since there is no beach nearby at all. But the happy pop music (sometimes campy) sets a very light and relaxing environment to the place. As a regular, I would really recommend their Frozen Singapore Sling. I love the original one, but the frozen version is quite a blissful treat when the night gets a little humid. For food, chili cheese fries is a great choice. Me and my good friends love spending time there as it feels so homely and very casual. The service staff are really helpful and cheerful too! One thing they could work on, would be the lazyboy chairs. They're not very comfortable and can be quite flimsy at times, but other than that, this is the place to hang out at with close buddies.
