KPO
published on Sep 01 2009 - 23:39

A relic of Singapore’s history, the words ‘Killiney Post Office’ conjure up nostalgia and memories of a different era. But today, its glass walls and steel architecture offer a completely different ambience for sophisticated yuppies who desire the combination of history and modern design offered by KPO (named for its location at the junctions of Killiney, Penang and Orchard Road). The two-storey bar feels like a modern home, with comfy sofas strategically placed at the corners, and even a greenhouse on the second floor. There is a balcony where one can watch the traffic whizz by while sipping a martini, and slow ambient beats set the mood for a laidback, louche evening. Drinks are well priced, with decent promotions (Sapporo and Asahi at $7 per bottle). A wider-than-usual bar menu offers great bites – try the barbecue pork ribs for a latenight snack.

I was there last night for dinner and drinks. Its a lovely place, nice architecture but the service and attitude of the staff there sucks! We had to find our own seating or we'd be left there standing and waiting. The service staff there obviously do not believe in service with a smile...the one who served us had such a black face the whole night. As others commented what's with the demand for the credit card immediately upon ordering food/drinks! Strange!

the thing i hate about this place: you cant hold on to the bill unless you have a certain credit card. its ridiculous! people like to drink and enjoy; bill later. it made me feel tense instead, paying on the spot everytime my drink comes. tsk tsk.

Nice place but 'tis the typical singaporean restaurant/bar...unrefined manners and service.

Food only average which is forgivable if only the nice environment was not spoiled by lethargic and lounging servers who basically stand around trying to ignore frantic wavers for service.
