Styled as a midtown Manhattan bar, The Living Room is located smack in the middle of prime Orchard Road real estate at the Marriott Hotel. Though one might not expect to see a fireplace in the tropics, there’s a (fake) one here to help you imagine you’re seeking boozy shelter from a blizzard. The interior might look a little stiff, but musical regulars like DJ Samurai help to warm up the atmosphere. Big plus: no cover charge – but do remember that the age requirements are hiked up. If you’re looking to re-enact true Big Apple behaviour, make use of the Marriott’s posh valet service. Just remember: we don’t tip here.
Living Room Bar was included in our recent One Night Stand feature.

Never would u imagine this bar is under Dennis Foo's management !!! And how could Marriot let this Bar bring its hotel good name down. I have pictures to show how dusty all the bottle displays were ! Rude staff drinking whiskey behind the counter. Not even a 'hi' or a 'bye' when we walk in and out. Rude staff just throw the bill folder on our table and expect payment ! If the management don't believe pls look into your CCTV !!! Too expensive to pay for such bad service !!!

Well only go to the Living Room if its past 4 in the morning and you haven't gotten lucky and are desperate.
Why do hotels like the Marriott and Hyatt (Brixx) allow bars with as many working girls as the four floors. And to top that off the drinks are super expensive and the staff is VERY rude.

Looking at the postings it's obvious that John's and Nikoli's comments can be discredited as it's definitely from someone working there. Anyway, who goes there nowadays when there r so many new and hip clubs in singapore?

Strange that i managed to have a really good time with my friends at Living room despite the comments above. I guess it's personal experiences and if the place is really that bad, this page will be filled with hundred over comments and not just these few.

Was there last night an it was a total dive. But not in a fun way. Just full of cheap hookers and wannabe gangsters. Avoid like the plague. Unless it's 4am, nowhere else is open and you're desperate.

A guy looked for trouble on the dance floor... The bouncer grabed me without questions and left the guy who was looking for trouble in the bar...
Nothing against malay but malay guy who punched me and malay bouncer... Then while outside the bouncer gave me a good punch... i escaped a bit and tell the other bouncer why is he punching me when i am not even drunk and did nothing... Then the second bouncer punched me...
i then waited at the entrance to call the police and a third bouncer came to see me to say they did this cause its better for me, rather than the malay triad come on me so i am lucky...
I think no need to comment more... i guess the fact are just enough...

Looking at some of the dates my guess is many of these posts are from the same person.
And one guy complaining because he got caught trying to charge drinks fraudulently?!?
As for bar fights ... the odds are slim to none at this establishment as well as in Singapore in general compared to Western Countries.
The Living Room and Bar None (the club downstairs) are two of the best rated bars in Singapore and are in an upscale hotel. So, of course it is not a cheap place.
I've spent weeks at the Marriott going to both these bars in 2008 and 2009 (same as the above posts) and these are great bars, clean, modern, GREAT bands and GREAT service.

I went to the Living room last night and while at the urinals, five guys storm in and start kicking and punching a guy next to me.
I tell them to stop and become their next victim. Had to retreat to a toilet cubicle and after having been showered with hits, I walk out.
Security don't seem to care, and a guy just walks up and punches me in the face. How can a 5 star hotel have a bar like that? Security that are either afraid or can be bothered to protect two guys being attacked?
Avoid at all costs

My girlfriend was dancing on the dance floor when the waiter was with a pizza and wanted to pass. Instead of asking politely, he nudged and pushed my girlfriend. We made a fuss and instead of listening to our feedback we were ushered out of the club. The bouncer gave us equally rude service. Firstly, the dance floor was crowded, as a waiter, they should know how to manage when they serve food across the dance floor, secondly, this is not a way to treat a girl. This place sucks big time.

firstly there wasn't any menu. secondly the drinks are so pricey and in fact all ppl working in living are kind of rude to the customer. I was there one night and guess what, i got punched by the bouncer and some malay guys. Please listen to my advise, avoid living room. You wll be overcharge with the drinks you order and it's not a safe place.

"Bo Pian", as you correctly pointed out, this is a public forum - and if it is true what Jo is advising, then it is good and valuable information for all of us and the management of this establishment should sack everyone involved - at the end of the day - they are shooting themselves in the foot by allowing such things to go on.

had stop over for one night, accidentally signed for drinks with my mates credit card, got arrested spent night at police station then found out that they charged for the drinks that were refused after the card incident, security staff are a bunch of weasels

The way that this place is run is like a scam. Was staying at the Marriotts on a stopover last year and decided to go down for a drink as I was feeling jet lagged. To cut a long story short, I had a few and knocked over a glass. They demanded $200 for the glass as compensation. What? of course I refused and told them where to go stick it. This place does not know how to treat their customers and is more of a mafia-run type organisation. Go at your own risk

I couldn't agree more with Jo. I havn't been back in ages since my last visit, but seriously a place full of working girls that's pretending to be a midtown Manhatten bar? I would rather go to Bangkok or Pattaya if i were into that sort of action. I must say that the bar staff were quite rude when i last visited - not worth it if u ask me.

Why are u sabotaging someone elses' business like that? This is a public forum u know, such comments can seriously damage an estab's reputation and essentially revenues in this highly competitive environment. Cut some slack also on making references to Malays and Indians - we're not living in colonial age anymore.

I saw the bartender drinking coke from a customer's order and pouring from the same can to refill customers drinks! looks like a malay guy with spectacles - Don't let him serve you ever! The bouncers are a bunch of indians hoodlums who are always ready to pick a fight with customers - for anything! Overall, a very uneasy feeling when you drink here, whether the place is decorated classily or not. The "software" of the place sucks BIG time ....
