On weekdays, non-members are more than welcome to head to this historic club, sans jodhpurs or high heels. If you’d like lunch with your alcohol, you’ll be relegated to the non-members’ area on The Verandah, but it’s really all the same. For just a drink, you can rub shoulders with landed gentry at the open, breezy Polo Bar. Grab a spicy bloody Mary (at $8, you can’t complain) before you choose a crisp white wine (try the Wairau River sauvignon blanc for $48) to help wash down your bar snacks.
