on christmas eve (actually half an hour past midnight), I was forcibly persuaded by my friend to go to Avalon even though everyone else wanted to go to Zouk (my family were staying at Marina bay sands) after walking for what seemed like hours,we were confronted by rude bouncers- the one at the door in particular was a rude liar and other staff arrogant and unhelpful. Told us it was packed inside but wouldn't let us have a look and wanted to charge 40 bucks cover charge per pax with no drinks.
He suggested ordering a bottle (and nearly picked an expensive vodka for us, the cheeker bugger) but forgot to remind us that there'd be additional service 40 buck tax n service charge on top of the 220 dollars we had to pay for a bottle of smirnoff (compare to 20 at the airport!)
then were made to climb 3 full flights of stairs to be greeted by a half empty club occupied by mainly unsuspecting tourists. we didnt even have a seat and have to stand by the bar. I was more than pissed off having to pay 260 bucks in total for my sisters and friends (4 girls in total).
cut the story short, we finished the bottle in half and hour and went to zouk, where we were greeted by friendly faces, got free entrance and free drinks.

ok, location is great for visitors/tourists, but bouncers were extremely rude, forcing us to wait for 45 minutes even though we had bought tickets *in advance* at ticketbooth and the club had plenty of space inside, as we later found out (it was NYE, but it wasn't as packed as we thought it'd be).
when some of us started complaining about the senseless waiting, the bouncers even had the nerve to tell us that we are not behaving and that we should wait quietly until they let us in. sorry, but if I pay in advance, and a premium price at that, I expect a decent service. anyway, since we had already paid for it, we waited, got increasingly impatient, and after some pushing and shoving they started letting people in at a quicker pace.
club is nice, video installation is top-notch, music is ok though nothing to write home about, overall decent I guess, but overpriced and very poor reception for the price we had to pay ($50 no drinks included). some nice staff inside, but won't be going again, unless we have visitors over who may want to party with a view of the CBD. for everyone else, there's zouk, home, etc.

Gerald said: “Bad Communication”
all i can say is that the staff of avalon were cocky and didn't communicate well with all the other staffs.
They denied our entry with the preferred admission cards and the excuse we got was that the night was only for ticket holders. We actually have called them earlier and was told it was possible to get in before 12am with those cards.
Even after our explanation, they simply told us off that the lady named alexis was an office girl which was different from them.
For me that was a lousy excuse because I called the number that was registered under Avalon.
Bad communication among staff. Wouldn't feel the need to pay the cover with the bad service received outside. A big guy with the hat was particularly rude and arrogant.
Zouk Singapore, even though it is always very packed, provides better service anytime. Would recommend Zouk over over-rated Avalon.

Pushing house music and great Marina Bay view. Bit of high class ambience, but not too formal to party on. Expect mostly western crowd.
Smokers are sent to a small floating bar which would be OK, but the drink must be placed somewhere out of sight. For nonsmokers Avalon is definitively worth a look. Smokers better move to Attica, still the best smoking area in Singapore.

Joe said: “Over-hyped”
last saturday night some friends and I decided to check Avalon out after hearing much about the hype. Having difficulty to find the place, was not a good sign. Then we had to bear the cover charge which would have been ok provided it was value for money.
Once inside, the design is indeed innovative, but cannot make up for the poor experience. The drinks are overpriced and sound is poor in some parts of the club. And moreover, the vibe of the club felt like a 90-ies club on a bad tuesday night as there was hardly any crowd.
The service was very poor and borderline rude. They better shape up otherwise we will not be surprised that they can never live up to their US reputation.
