Velvet Dragon

Some things never change – not much, at least. Formerly known as Club Momo, the spacious establishment has now reopened as Velvet Dragon. And as the name suggests (intentionally or not), there certainly is an ah-beng, ah-lian feel that permeates, much like before the refurbishment. From the long, winding line of under-25s outside awaiting entry to the Top 40 tunes that play inside, this place is clearly for the younger party-goer, which is not a bad thing if you appreciate fun dance music. The décor is more lush than before, with gigantic mirrors, mini wall lamps and velvet-wrapped maroon-coloured sofas (in honour of the club’s name, perhaps) at the booth-seating areas – the latter providing great respite when you get tired of dancing or feel like canoodling. If you find your energy waning, top up your buzz with their house cocktail, Blue Velvet, which is a tasty mix of Blue Curaçao, gin and tonic. Then go shake it up in one of the two cages they have on the dance floor.
