Filmed on the island of Batam, this animated tale is adapted from Minfong Ho’s 1975 short story about Dawan, a young girl desperate to escape her village to pursue a scholarship in the city. Against her father’s wishes, Dawan sets out to prove to herself and the villagers that she’s more than capable of handling the big wide world. In cinemas now.
