Far from the uplifting sports pictures churned out by Disney, White Palms wallows instead in humiliation rituals and too much time-shifting. Writer-director Szabolcs Hajdu cast his brother Zoltán as the washed-up gymnast haunted by his days training as a tyke in’80s Budapest, now coaching a recalcitrant teen in Calgary. But how’s this for humiliating: those who can’t dismount perfectly end up in rehearsals for Cirque du Soleil. (Melissa Anderson)
