The 24th Singapore French Film Festival
This annual festival is back with more than 20 French films making their international debut. From comedy to drama, nouvelle vague to animated films, this year promises to be one for the whole family.
For the dads, there’s Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (Welcome to the Sticks), a non-PC, ‘heartwarming’ tale of a husband-postman searching for a job in a Mediterranean seaside town so his depressed wife can seek some relief. He gets caught trying to scam a postal inspector in the process and is banished to Bergues, aka ‘the Sticks’, a town in northern France far from his wife and child. This film has been a major box-office success in France this year.

For the young at heart, there’s Qui M’aime Me Suive (If You Love Me Follow Me), the story of a successful 30-year-old doctor who packs up and leaves his well-paid profession in pursuit of the age-old dream to become a rock star. For the mums, there’s Hiroshima Mon Amour (Hiroshima My Love), a melancholic disquisition on the relationship between a French actress and a Japanese architect. Four animated films – including Chasseurs de Dragons (Dragon Hunters) and Lucky Luke: Tous à l’Ouest (Lucky Luke Go West) – will keep the kids entertained while the parents go off to speak the language of love.
