Want to put on a kids’ party with a difference? Jo Tan picks out five of the best in town, from an archaeology dig to a girly makeover

For drama queens

Do your children give you drama? The Players Theatre will come to your home or selected venue and channel your child’s inner thesp into customised adventure tales in which the kids are the stars. The group has created children’s theatre for almost a decade, and they’ll bring their own actors, props, costumes and showbiz savvy. Kids cooperate with their guests to act and play games as part of the quest for a happy ending. From pirates to pioneers, The Players Theatre can create an adventure from pretty much whatever theme you choose. Parties from $500. For ages 2-16. Call 6446 4430 or email party@theplayerstheatre.org for more information.

For budding archaeologists

For kids who want to be Lara Croft or Indiana Jones, the special Dino Dig Party at Go-Go Bambini may just fit the bill. The pro party host will equip little ones with ‘dig it out’ kits; help them navigate the party room where the ‘dinosaur fossils’ are buried; and organise age-specific party games. The package also means that every kid gets a ‘fossil’, balloons, temporary tattoos, candy, party food and drink, and playtime in the Go-Go Bambini indoor playscape. #01-15, Block 8, Dempsey Rd. Parties from $625. For ages 5-11. Call 6474 4176 or see www.gogobambini.com for more information.

For bubble lovers

For something a little less cerebral than digging up fossils, Fantasy Parties will come to your party area and take over with their Giant Bubble Party: 30 minutes of giant bubbles which the kids create with trays, giant wands and Special Bubble Juice. The fun concludes with the customary cake-cutting and birthday song, all overseen by an entertainer dressed as a character of your child’s choice, from an impressive selection including Jedi Knights, cartoon princesses, anime stars and Angry Birds. Parties from $300 for 45 minutes, including 30 minutes of bubbles. For ages 2 and above. See www.kidsfantasyparties.com for more information.

For budding techies

If you want to combine your party with teaching your kids life skills, the Children’s Technology Workshop does everything from animation to video-game design, Lego and engineering parties. The package provides absolutely everything: decorations, games, prizes, invitations, goodie bags and attendance certificates. A party photographer will create a musical video of the event, and three staff members (including a host) will run everything from set-up to clean-up. #02-K1, Forum the Shopping Mall. From $660. For ages 6-12. Call 6887 4547 or see www.ctworkshop.com.sg for more information.

For beauty queens

If your offspring’s guest list largely comprises members of the fairer sex who want to look fairer still, summon Stephy the Mobile Hairdresser – a qualified hairstylist, make-up and nail artist – who will bring her kit and assistants to your house for a mini makeover party. She’s worked with all age groups from 18-month-old babies to girls in their golden years, so get the family to join in the mass beautification – all from the comfort of your own home. Parties from $55 per guest, depending on services required. For ages 1½ and above. See stephythemobilehairdresser.tumblr.com for more information.
