We had a last-minute cancellation from one of the groups, but the K-pop shows must go on – and this month, there's four of them
It’s the dance moves, the mandatory dress code of dazzle and lyrics that scream out sarang (love) in a difficult world. K-pop is a resonator, with its top practitioners commanding extraordinary levels of devotion – so bearing that in mind, here's December’s tidy quartet of opportunities for an emotional outpouring.
Sungha Jung
There'll be no singing from this lad, but you’ll be just as speechless watching his guitar skills at work. A sensational collection of YouTube tributes got this star on the map, and judging by the speed the tickets went, another set of shared online videos is in the offing for 2012 and beyond. DBS Auditorium. 3 December. 8pm.
TVXQ! Asia Fan Party
From boyband group to a duo, the famed mix of hip-hop, bouncy rap lyrics and ‘Baby’ will be putting on Indoor Stadium’s biggest fan party, which means a lot of screaming fans. Though they aren’t in town very long – less than a day, in fact – but if you were lucky enough to be singled out in their Facebook competition, you can be photographed with U-Know and Max. Indoor Stadium. 4 December. 7pm.
Girls’ Generation Tour
When the masses cry for more tickets, that’s a sure sign the second concert announced was a sign of gratitude from the nine-strong girl group. A mix of light-hearted teenybop and nightclub grind, expect a concert filled with lavish outfits and enough looping synth-enhanced bubblegum pop to keep the head bopping. Indoor Stadium. 9-10 December. Fri 8pm, Sat 6pm.
Block B
New to the block but stirring the neighbours, the group of seven has sung, danced and rapped its way up to MTV’s Match Up. Though we’re not sure what ‘Do You Wanna B’ exactly is insinuating, it could be an invitation worth taking on. St James Powerhouse. 29 December. 7pm.
