Music news for October 2009 by Alexis Ong
Christina Aguilera is dusting off the ol’ chest pipes for a comeback album with the help of M.I.A., Santigold, Le Tigre and Goldfrapp; she’s apparently recorded a cover of Ladyhawke’s ‘My Delirium’ with original material to follow. She’s also starring in Steven Antin’s 2010 film Burlesque – Antin’s sister Robin founded the original Pussycat Dolls burlesque troupe.
Warp is venturing into music mockumentaries with super-awkwardly titled Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee. The low-budget comedy focuses on a wannabe rapper and his roadie sidekick; Shane Meadows directs and Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz) stars along with musical cameos from folks like Arctic Monkeys. It screens on 9 October in the UK but we can sit tight for the 26 October DVD release.
In the magical world of metal, Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) will be running a ‘school of rock’ at the band’s studio for underprivileged kids. Metallica’s busy with new biography All That Matters and a DVD of recent concerts, both out this month. Metalcore quartet Converge is releasing a new album, Axe to Fall, with guest appearances from Neurosis, Cave In and Doom riders personnel.
HBO is developing a comedy series based on the life and times of The Rolling Stones’ ex-manager, Andrew Loog Oldham. The show, tentatively titled Stoned after Oldham’s sex-drugs-and-rock’n’roll biography, will be set in ’60s London and re-tell his experience as a producer and as Immediate label owner. Other Immediate bands included Small Faces, Humble Pie and Fleetwood Mac.
