One of the best American orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, tours with Esa-Pekka Salonen as it makes its Singapore debut. The first of two concerts is centred on Debussy’s ‘La Mer’ – a masterpiece of orchestration and composition – as well as Sibelius’ violin concerto, featuring Sarah Chang (pictured). On the second night, Tchaikovsky’s beloved warhorse, the romantic first piano concerto – featuring one of today’s most talented pianists, Yefim Bronfman – is performed in between Igor Stravinsky’s short ‘Fireworks’ and the complete Firebird ballet (1910 version).
