While commonly considered a children’s tale, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a sad, sweet, strange story that deals with issues of loneliness and even death. Focusing on its charming, childlike quality, Singapore’s late great playwright/director Kuo Pao Kun wrote this beautiful stage adaptation in 1988 as a celebration of life, appealing even to tinier tots. His daughter Kuo Jianhong directs this production, adding sparkling songs by celebrated musician Julian Wong and shadowplay, all performed by a talented international trio whose members hail from China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Expect your kids to be part of the performance too, as the actors ask them for ideas and help them create crafts to help the befuddled alien prince on his visit to Earth. In Mandarin with English subtitles. For ages 5 and above.
