The late local theatre legend Kuo Pao Kun wrote Lao Jiu, a boisterous and bittersweet play about the only son in a family of eight daughters, who defies his family’s hopes for him by studying the dying art of Chinese street puppetry. Now, the work has been given a refreshing reinterpretation by Kuo’s daughter, who has transformed it into a musical performed by local, Chinese-speaking luminaries of the stage, radio and TV. With English subtitles.
