Time Out says

Founded and run by the spacer.gif collective – comprised of local creatives Nabilah Husna, Vanessa Victoria and Charlene Shepherdson – the first edition of destination: INK (d:INK) took place in June 2012 after about two months of planning. The event’s name, which Husna and Shepherdson came up with on a bus ride, is meant to encapsulate the literary as well as other art forms; ‘ink’ as a medium carries those connotations well. Husna also said that d:INK felt like a punchy short form – almost subliminal in the way it’s one letter away from drink!

Format:
Open mic format; each reader gets five minutes on stage (seven for musical performers). There’s a 15-minute break in the middle and the event usually finishes by 10.30pm. After that, the mics are left onstage for anyone to jam or collaborate with others they’ve seen perform or read. First-timers welcomed.

Who’s performed: Local creatives such as horror writer Samantha de Silva, actor/playwright Christopher Fok, musician Wei Shan (Weish), as well as Marc Nair and Deborah Emmanuel of Word Forward.

How to join: Follow spacer.gif on Facebook and send them a private message, write on their wall, or text Nabilah at 9644 1826.

Top tip: ‘Whatever the circumstance, just do your poem justice,’ says Husna.

While every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, some last-minute changes may occur. We recommend calling the venue to confirm that the event is still ongoing.
