Garuda Padang Cuisine
published on Jul 09 2009 - 11:31

A Tung Lok group franchise, this is the first outlet outside of Indonesia of the famed Garuda chain. The white-on-white restaurant (the interior decor includes etched glass panels and expensive Corian tables) attracts a stream of Indo expats for its nasi padang. Highlights include turmeric-hued chicken curry, fried bean-curd topped with a lush pineapple and peanut sauce, rich beef rendang and sambal prawns.

Garuda was featured in our recent Comfort Food - Basic Instincts - Where to Eat feature.

The Garuda at Vivo has never failed us. The staff as always are on the ball, the food and dishes are consistent and delicious, fried chicken is tummy, curry tendon mmm mmm, the beef rendang's smoky delicious. I've never been to Cairnhill's but my pals who've gone there told meVivo's one is much better!

I went to the Garuda at Cairnhill with my friends who one of tham came from Philiphines and the other one for a birthday celebration. So when the 3 of us went into the restaurant,we requested to sit at a smaller table since there's only three of us and the staff insisted us to sit at a certain table which is too big and near to the washroom. After we decided to get a smaller table, she just walked a way and showed face to us. This is a very bad service. Is it we as the customers are not allowed to choose the seat since there's alot of empty tables? Secondly, when it came to the bill payment, we told her that one of us is the birthday gal for this month. We saw a big advertisement board in front of the restaurant stated that we can enjoy a 15% discount for the one whose birthday in the month. Then she told me that it's based on the terms and conditions which is the minimum pax is 6 persons. But we came with 5 persons last month for a birthday celebration as well and we still enjoyed the 15% discount. Later, she told me that it depends on the manager preference also. So I asked the chinese lady manager and she answered me that it will base on her preference. I'm really not happy with this. What do you mean with based on her preference? Does that mean it depends on her mood that day? How true is the promotion that they are doing for the birthday celebration? It's not the matter of the money but it just like being cheated with all those misleading reasons given by them. I want an answer for all this. Please take this complaint seriously and I want a reply from the management of Garuda or Tung Lok Group as soon as possible. Is this the way you give service to your customers?

Not that close to the original Garuda back in Medan/Jkt of course. But should you have cravings for pure padang cuisine..Garuda is the place to be. I feel the one at Vivo City tastes better for some reasons :) Fried/Rendang/Gulai Chiken is a must try..
