Cafés originating in Oz may be riding the crest of a wave in Singapore, but this one’s no apostle: a Melbourne institution, this Italianstyle gelateria, cioccolateria, pasticceria and paninoteca (sandwich bar) has finally set down its funky black-and-white mosaic-tiled surfaces, walls festooned with blown-up photos of coffee sippers, marble tops and 140 wooden chairs on the ground floor of Tanglin Mall. The Australian Uni alumni have already hotfooted it down for the lava-thick hot chocolate ($6), but we’re also eyeing the 24 flavours of gelato, seven types of coffee, cannoli and paninis. We anticipate this will be one for the brunch books.
Main courses $15-$20; coffees $3.50-$5.
