There’s a mustiness to the place and the decor looks like it hasn’t changed in 30 years, but that hasn’t stopped hordes of regulars from filling the tables every night. This is one of only about two or three Hokkien restaurants in town (discounting hawkers, of course) and, as you would expect, it’s all fairly authentic – from the tiles of fish flavoured with ginger and vinegar to the amazing kong bak, all fatty pork slabs, garlicky and glossy with soy sauce. A favourite is the fried bee hoon, its strands embedded with both fresh and dried prawns. Also try the combination of bamboo shoots, sugar snap peas and shards of fried salted fish.
