What’s eating us in restaurants this month

Hits

The bowl of water that was brought out for our dog the moment we sat down for a recent Sunday brunch at The Cellar Door (619 Bukit Timah Rd, 6463 5296).

The slick, warm interiors of the newly renovated Rang Mahal (Level 3, Pan Pacific Hotel, 7 Raffles Blvd, 6333 1788).

The super-juicy and tender-fleshed roast chicken at Jason’s Supermarket (#01-01 Orchard Towers, 1 Claymore Dr, 6235 4355).

The maitre d’ at Barfly who told us, ever so gently and sweetly, that she couldn’t allow us in because we weren’t appropriately dressed. It was the nicest ‘no’ anyone has ever given us. A real lesson in restaurant diplomacy.

The bittersweet, just-right moistness of the Devil’s Fudge Cake at Cedele by Bakery Depot.

The crisp and fluffy deep-fried squid at Cuba Libre.

Misses

Restaurants and cafés that still refuse to serve plain old tap water. Look, we’re already paying $20 and upwards a head for the meal. Stop being cheap.

Being seen by the waiting staff as we stood at the entrance on our arrival at Brown Sugar Café and then being pointedly ignored.
