Wiener Kaffeehaus
If you’ve been passing by this neighbourhood gem and wondering why the windows are all covered up, it’s moved to bigger premises in Bukit Timah. Here, it’s business as usual with freshly ground coffee and heavenly sachertortes, and a bigger menu that includes minced schnitzels and imported Austrian beers.
833 Bukit Timah Rd (6226 3148, www.wienerkaffeehaus.com.sg). Bus 970. Daily 10am-10pm. Average mains $7-$18.

Treasure Court The folks behind the earthy flavours of Mushroom Pot have spun off a variation on the mushroom theme with Treasure Court. The menu is inspired by the Chinese aphorism ‘Treasures from the mountain, and flavours from the sea’. This translates to dishes like mushrooms wrapped in beancurd skins, monkey’s head mushroom with wasabi, and shark’s bone and fish maw soup. Equally inviting are Peking duck and black pepper beef.
#01-06 Millenia Walk, 9 Raffles Blvd (6338 1160). MRT: City Hall. Daily 11.30am- 2.30pm, 5.30-9.30pm. Average mains $12-$16.
Privé Restaurateur Michel Lu is a busy man these days, opening one restaurant after another. His latest, Privé, is sprawling, including a chill-out zone and gastrobar by the waterfront, while the main building is a sectioned glass dome floating over the marina at Keppel Bay. The menu, masterminded by the great Aussie chef Tony Bilson (though sadly he won’t be cooking), takes a surf and turf theme; while the adjoining Bakery Café is all about quick bites like quiches, gourmet sandwiches, salads and the like. Ground floor, Marina at Keppel Bay, 2 Keppel Bay Vista (6776 0777). Take a taxi. Tue-Sun noon-2.30pm, 6-10.15pm. Average mains $28-$120.
