The way to a man’s heart is most definitely through his stomach. Yip Min-Ting rounds up the best treats for Father’s Day (21 June) for different types of dads.
Featured places: One Rochester, Princess Terence, Casa do Churrasco Brazil and Park Palace
Pamper your carnivorous old man with an all-out meat feast at Casa do Churrasco Brazil (#01-37/39 Katong Village, 86 East Coast Road; Tel: 6346 4744). Let him sink his teeth into delicately marinated grilled meats – beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish – and munch through Brazilian veggie dishes such as black beans, squash and tapioca from the all-you-can-eat salad bar. Fathers who are accompanied by family members (how they will be sure of this we’re not entirely clear) will enjoy 10 per cent off his meal and a complimentary caipirinha.
Costs: $39++ (6-11pm); $32++ (noon-4pm, available only on Sat & Sun).
Knock back some pints with your old fella while grazing on scrumptious beer-battered fish, spicy Italian sausages and some of the best burgers at One Rochester (1 Rochester Park; Tel: 6773 0070, website). Dads need to prove their fatherhood (perhaps bring some happy family snaps?) to receive a welcome beer and all subsequent beers at $5 each. Promotion applies to groups of three or more and each has to order a main course.

Penang laksa at Princess Terence
If he has a penchant for favourites from across the Causeway, seek out the Penang Buffet at Princess Terence (Copthorne King’s Hotel, 403 Havelock Road; Tel: 6735 7575). Perennial favourites are there for the taking: Penang char kway teow, kuei pai tee, nasi ulam, Penang fried porridge and copious servings of kueh bengkah ubi (tapioca cake) to round the meal off.
Costs: $38 (adults), $23.80 (children).
If your dad is happiest with traditional Chinese food, head to Park Palace (Mezzanine floor, Grand Park City Hall, 10 Coleman Street; Tel: 6432 5888). Trade stories over braised fish maw soup with pumpkin sauce, fried lobster rolls, slices of roasted duck and have an arm wrestling match over who gets the last finger-lickin’ delicious pork ribs. To swill it all down, dad gets a free Bull Shot cocktail.
Costs: $48++ per person for the six-course set (minimum two people), $58++ per person for the seven-course set (minimum six people).
