The latest addition to what is fast becoming ‘Avenue Les Amis’, Bistro du Vin is already a hot favourite with the island’s foodies. Attempting to secure an 8.30pm reservation on a Saturday night put me on the waitlist, even with 48 hours’ notice; thankfully, someone cancelled. Helmed by chef Philip Lee – Justin Quek’s right-hand man for years – the menu contains the usual litany of French standards: onion soup, burgundy escargots with garlic, and herbs and steak frites. But what really caught our attention was the charcuterie platter. The Joselito de Bellota Gran Reserva was simply divine and set the mood for the rest of the meal; a balsamic reduction cut into the creamy goodness of the pan-fried foie gras. And while the duck confit came out a tad salty, it was saved by hand-cut chips that were fried to perfection. Unfortunately there wasn’t room for dessert, but peeking over at our neighbouring table’s choice of profiteroles and a thin-crust apple tart, a second visit was definitely on the cards.
