This restaurant specialises in intense flavours laced with a touch of sweetness. It’s rare to find a place with this calibre of cooking and where dinner for two sets you back barely $50. The fork-tender beef rendang is creamily sweet, the fried fish is golden, and the tahu telor is a smoky, shaggy pile of eggy, crisp tofu. For veggies, the keredok – a small bowl of salad and emping crackers tossed with a tart, spicy peanut dressing – is lovely. Have dessert somewhere else, though; they only have a rather uninspiring buffet of fruits and a couple of coconut-flecked kueh.
