Serangoon may be a bit of a hike for some, but we’ll go far for authentic Indonesian chow, chai-beng style. Prima Rasa takes up a little corner of a block of HDB suburban shops, but behind its glassed-off counter is a treasure trove of brilliantly executed dishes, including sweet-and-sour fish that’s neither soggy nor cloyingly sweet; curry chicken swathed in a turmeric-scented golden gravy; and sambal kangkong with just the right amount of bite and chilli heat. Even the humble omelette is especially fluffy and fragrant with caramelised onions. Bonus: if you don’t do au naturel dining, there’s an air conditioned room to the side.
