A ’shroom worth sniffing out
The debut of this ‘house of truffles’ is probably the best thing to have happened to the ageing Forum Mall in recent times; the trattoria, with its lace curtains and exposed brick walls, holds bragging rights to being the only restaurant in Singapore to have a menu crafted around the world’s priciest fungi.
The current crop, the summer truffle, is featured in almost all the dishes on the two-page menu of Italian classics that include sea-urchin risotto and tagliatelle pomodoro. Desserts are also ‘enriched’ – home-made truffle with Piedmont hazelnut gelato and truffle tiramisu. If you’re still left wanting more, additional truffle shavings can be had at market price. Those who remain unmoved by the charms of the prized fungi may happily defer: the line-caught Italian seabass steamed en papillote is a standout. Evelyn Chen
