It’s not Keystone this new Italian is pitting itself up against, it’s No Menu. Puglian chef Marco Violano (formerly of The Regent Hotel and Basilico) helms this semi-fine-dine 40-seater which serves ‘Mama-style’ Southern Mediterranean flavours. Expect plenty of grilled seafood, and comforting dishes like the raviolacci farciti ai frutti di mare con bottarga di muggine (150g ravioli filled with grilled seafood and mullet roe, $28), and cod in a clam, capers and cherry tomato sauce ($32). The black-and-white photos of Italy, white walls and brown tiles and selection of Italian-only wines is in line with the simple, homey feel. As for PepeNero (‘black pepper’), the name stems from a joke the chef and his friends share – you’ll have to ask him.
Me and my wife to be went to Pepe Nero and were very impressed. Chef Marco came down to our table as soon as we said down and after a quick chat we went with a menu of the chef's recommendations (incl. meat balls which usually aren't on the menu we were told; grandmather's recipe)...amazing food, great atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff...it doesn't get any better.

hidden in the quiet lane of Stanley Street, I found this little gem. Contemporary design, it did give me a feel that it might cost more than it is worth. I was wrong, prices are reasonable with pasta dishes all kept below $30. The beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the antipasti- eggplant parmagiana was heavenly as it melts in the mouth. It is a perfect venue for gathering with a bunch of friends or a romantic quiet dinner with gf/bf.
My favourite spot is the al fresco where we moved to after the hearty dinner and chill out with some great italian wines.

The eggplant parmigiana or eggplant cake is fantastic with layers of buffalo mozerella cheese, sun dried tomatoes and 24 months aged Parmesan. The other dish I like is the mama - style carbonara which has hardly any cream. So good and much less guilt after eating that.

The eggplant cake (or parmigiana) is fantastic with buffalo cheese mozarella cheese, sundried tomatos and 24-mth aged parmesan cheese. The other homely dish i like is the authentic carbonara with little or practically no cream. Tasty and i definitely felt less guilty after that dish.
