Fresh from a rather chic makeover, Ricciotti remains a draw for the sweet of tooth. Concentrate on its delicious range of rum babas, sfogliatelles, tiramisus and fruit gelatos. Chef Stefano Deiuri and his ancestors have been making pastries since 1580, and it shows in every single mouthful. For a relaxing, post-dinner treat, sit outside facing the river.

I was at Ricciotti last week at China Square and I was blown away by the pasta, it was al dente, and I can taste the freshness of the tomatoes and spices. Keep it up!

"Ricc" pickings here at an affordable price, and though the waiters could probably benefit from a few cups of the agreeable cappuccino to hasten their rather languid pace, they didn't disappoint with their succulent eggs benedict, which stood out for taste and value. Benefiting immensely from its riverside location, there are few more pleasant eateries on the island to escape the city crush, while those nursing a Sunday morning hangover might find Ricciotti's the ideal hangover cure.
