Progressive yet traditional are two qualities that sum up the philosophy of the sushi chefs at this artfully accented, light-wooded space with sliding doors in the Financial District. For the fickle or the adventurous, Akari offers a broad spectrum of over 70 dishes with varying preparation methods, be it braised, grilled or deep-fried. Sushi and sashimi are also on offer, with choices of combo platters. Appetisers can be light yet novel (tofu and cheese salad) or more exotic (spicy cod roe wrapped in omelette). Diners also have the option of being seated alfresco on the patio.
