Japanese for meat lovers
It’s Japanese meats galore from the folks at Kinki and Marmalade Pantry, who offer a bespoke service for carnivores – from weight, choice and cut of the beef, to charcoal-grilling, sukiyaki and shabu-shabu methods – along with a vintage wine list and cocktail collection. The Wagyu Donburi lunch set is well worth the $60++: tender slices of Japanese grade-A3 beef are laid to form a cup around a softboiled organic New Zealand egg sprinkled with Japanese spring onions, laid atop rice mixed well with umami. This rice bowl – and the nine other set options – comes with miso soup made with three kinds of miso, seasonal salad, home-made dessert, and a silky chawanmushi (steamed egg custard in a cup). The tender, gelatinous Wagyu ox tendon with foie gras (à la carte, $29++) and house-made jelly-like dessert warabi mochi ($18++) are must-tries.
Main courses $40-$120; beef $50-$95 per 100g.
