This new kid on the block is marketed as a shabu shabu hotspot, but don’t be surprised to find the works on the menu – sashimi, sushi, kushiyaki. Despite the hefty price tag (beef sukiyaki set dinner starts from $60++ and an order of kaisen nabe, seafood and vegetables mixed in a broth, will set you back $50++), Honjin was almost filled to the brim on the Friday night we dined. Yes, the service could do with a polish and the decor may appear worn, but aficionados of Japanese cuisine know to head to this spot when the craving for hotpot with marbled Wagyu beef hits. And did we mention that kids receive complimentary Häagen-Dazs ice cream to end the meal?
