It’s hard to imagine that this dark, tiny space with its luridly coloured tables, could yield such understated Hokkaido delicacies. The husband-and-wife team, Mr and Mrs Yasukawa, are masters of braising, grilling (try the pork and eggplant) and stewing. Grilled mackerel lounges delicately on a golden pool of miso paste, the sashimi comes as generous thick cuts of fresh seafood, and the tempura prawns are a cut above the rest. The home-made watermelon sorbet is wonderful for its purity
