SanoBar
First published on . Updated on 2 Dec 2009.

There’s nothing like a serving of zesty baba ghanouj and a spot of belly dancing to help you forget your woes. Both are in bountiful supply at SanoBar, now at Mohamed Sultan Road. Draped in earthy ochre tones, tapestries and mottled light, it’s like entering the sanctity of a Bedouin tent at the end of a long trek through the desert. Middle Eastern mystique aside, the menu is sure to tantalise, ranging from meze starters such as vegetarian fattoush adorned with toasted pita bread, to the hearty lamb shank stewed in Mediterranean spices on a bed of raisin and pine-nut couscous. On Fridays and Saturdays skewered shawarma is served – be sure to book early to land a prime position near the resident Lebanese dancer. Wind down by grabbing a big cushion or two and indulging in honey-sweet mouhallabieh, a cream pudding with mixed nuts, along with an iced mint tea.
