Housed in a renovated, barn-like building amid the embassies on Tanglin Road, you can sit indoors or on the outside deck with views of the treetops. Black Eames chairs complement the exposed timber floorboards, giving the space a warm, retro vibe. The well-priced menu covers the right bases and although the produce is good, the execution of most dishes is a little too safe, verging on dull. Strange anomalies abound, such as steak frites served with a béarnaise sauce in a shot glass – a touch impractical, although the steak itself is delicious. Also, a Caesar salad is not a Caesar salad if it’s missing anchovies, no matter how tasty the poached egg and parmesan-coated cos lettuce; try the tastier spiced-lamb kofta salad instead.
