Serenity is huge and suffers for it. Occupying a south-facing shoulder of VivoCity, this giant, 210-seat hulk of a tapas specialist offers all the anonymous atmospherics and glib contrivance of your average chain joint. The dizzying sprawl of mostly empty tables, Euro-beat muzak, ersatz Mediterranean detail and ugly, industrial ceiling inspire none of the fiery warmth and forced intimacy of a Madrid tapas bar. Even the tuneful resident band fails to lasso diners into any sense of shared experience.
Surprisingly, the food isn’t bad. The menu is mostly derivative of all the usual tapas standards – although criminally, no patatas bravas – and is generally well executed. Calamares a la plancha was a notable triumph, the tender pieces of grilled squid served in a rich balsamic sauce, and sweetly tempered with cherry tomatoes and fi nely sliced asparagus; pan-fried chorizo with olive oil was nondescript but serviceable, with the albóndigas, beef meatballs in tangy tomato sauce, more memorable.
Bread came with almost every dish, which annoyingly rendered an order of garlic and herb bread entirely redundant. The weak aioli is similarly ubiquitous, its blandness upstaged only by the tortilla española, a kind of sexless, potato-fi lled culinary imagining of the colour beige. The cocktails are affordable and strong; the wine list is extensive, with a heavy bias for Tempranillo from north-west Spain.
Serenity is decent enough for groups bringing their own buzz, or for anyone in the area looking for a fairly priced antidote to the thought-clotting retail haemorrhage of Vivo. But it’s probably not worth making a special schlep across town. Alexander Barlow

We had very good Spanish Black Squid Ink Paella @ Serenity. The paella was delicious and flavorsome . When the Black Squid Ink Paella arrive on the table, we could smell the fresh squid ink. Paella rice was very juicy and had absorbed the essence of Black Squid Ink and Seafood. After a long time I had a very good paella. We ordered Spanish wine. Batalla Granacha. I like Granacha compaired to most famous Spanish Wine Tempranillo. Spanish Tapas also very good.Specially Spanish garlic prawn, Spanish croquets and Spanish Tuna Puff. I want to thank the waiter who serve us very politely also. He was very friendly.

We were at VivoCity and went to Serenity Spanish Bar & Restaurant for dinner. It was well packed. Server led us to at alfresco. First it was the acustic band attracted us. The trio ( I think they are locals). Since we are not familier with Spanish Food much, we asked the server to recomed us. She recomend us tapas (I can not remember the names, all in Spanish) and Seafood paella for main dish. My girlfriend ordered seafood soup too. We did not want to go for alcoholic drinks, so we ordered mamamia, aaaah strawberry moctail. It was sweet and refreshing. The prawn and bread was pretty nice. The seafood soup also something I crave to have again. Paella( Spanish Rice) was delicious. We had a nice romantic dinner at this Spanish Restaurant.
