New chef focusses menu on provincial Isaan region
New executive chef Adam Cliff, who has trained under Australian chef David Thompson, the man responsible for the world's first Michelin-starred Thai restaurant, steers clear of mainstream Thai cuisine with a refreshing menu that spotlights simple yet flavourful offerings from the Isaan region near Mekong River and Laos. Expect dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and a burst of sour, hot and salty flavours: Dtom Yum Goong, a hot and sour broth of prawns, tomatoes, galangal, lemongass and coriander; Nahm Dtok Nuer, spicy grilled Wagyu beef salad with shallots, coriander, mint, lime, fish sauce and taosted rice dressing; and Pla Phao Glua, slow-cooked salt-crusted whole seabass stuffed with lemongass, pandanas, and Thai basil stalks.

1. Average thai food...many other thai eateries serve better) 2. @50$+ pp one is paying through their nose for average thai food. 3. i've been to Kha before (they had just opened shop in Hortpark then)... the food was several notches better and prices were ~ half. 4. Service could have been better then, however is bad now... takes 30 mins for a lone soup to be delivered, staff feels offended if i ask for a plain glass of tap water. staff feels aristocratic around diners and has to be called several times before one gets any attn. ...i don't see what you see in Kha. i'm a foodie, i live and die by good food, i've eaten some of the best thai food in thailand and hunted for good thai food in SG. this place i dont recommend.

We just celebrated at KHA Martin Road yesterday night 8th Apr 11 for our niece who is going to US. The staff are perfect, courteous, serve well. The manager knows customer's taste, recommendation of their famous dishes is to our likings. Keep it up

Why would you not expect pricey food to comes with good service and adequately quality meals.
Further tell me how many Chinese restaurants you know who has Italians serving their food?
At least a leading waitress needs to be there to explain the quality, intricacy and details of the cuisine - see how the French and Italians sell....

KHA's positioning is confused. Its neither traditional Thai or fusion. Rather trying both. Hence its SG local clients are not accustomed and the westerners/expats cant relate to it as expecting Sailor's thai, Lemongrass etc from Sydney. Great idea, poor execution. As a Thai restauranteur, I felt having no Thais and Phillipinoes working in a Thai rest was no way to experience of Thai food.

I have to say this is easily the best thai restaurant I have visited in Singapore and I have visited a few. I have gone back many times between May and November 2009 and every visitor I take compliments the restaurant food and service here. Its expensive no doubt but well worth the price.

Quite simply - the food is mediocre and overpriced. This crew should know better - and have put equal effort into the decor and the cooking. I mean how hard is it to dish up decent Thai food????

Singapore has dozens of good Thai restaurants - but this is not even close to being either good or Thai. the food was delivered cold and the the appetisers were simply disgusting - with indeterminable meats and fish. stay away from this place at all costs. if a Thai person were to taste the food at this place they would need to be revived in the nearly hospital.

At a recent dinner party, was relating the unfortunate experience and someone further down the table shared an even more startling experience of exceedingly rude behavior by the manager and poor overall service. This person was there for a small corporate dinner but took his party of 8 and left. Hmmm anyone noticing a pattern, may be great food but the management and service are not living up to expectations.

I had dinner at Kha on a Saturday evening two weeks ago and thought it was one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in Singapore.

Hi Kirk -- Sorry you had a bad experience. Just to clarify, under Time Out policy, our food editor went to Kha at least twice before reviewing the restaurant, in addition to our judges and staff checking it out for the 'Best of' July issue. Whether or not you share TOS's opinion, we still want to hear what you have to say. Thanks for your comment.

Last night I had one of the biggest letdowns in a long time. The top new restaurant Kha is a huge disappointment. Frankly thanks to the manager, we had one of the worst experiences ever in a restaurant. Makes me question Time Outs voting and decision making process and just what it is they consider best. I am telling everyone I know not to go there. Not worth the stress and rude behavior of the management. Oh sadly the wait staff were very nice. I am sure this comment won't make any difference, I just know I am never going there again.

Overall very good service and great mocktails. Not sure abot the Green chicken curry - the chicken has been ground and then remoulded - leaving it with the consistency of a chicken souffle (or a fluffy McDonalds chicken nugget if you like).

Service and bar need much work. Food is tasty but presentation is not out of the ordinary. Black sticky rice desert looked really unappetizing; akin to a bodily function if you catch my drift...not worth the high prices although ambience is nice.
