Why does it seem that just about the only way to get good vegetarian these days is to head to Little India? Raj is always a hive of activity, dishing out substantial, well-priced portions of simply done but delicious curries, dosai and rava masalas (semolina crêpes). The idlis (doughy, nutty patties) are particularly good, as are the smoky cubes of paneer aachari draped with a heavy pink shower of raw onions. The ghee rava masala is a giant serving, the crêpe enveloping potato curry and strewn with peppercorns and sautéed onions. Pair it all with a rich, coconut-infused brinjal korma.
Raj was included in our Living on the Veg feature.

Staff of Raj Restaurant don't know hospitality and customer services.
This is regarding a rude behaviour and wrong attitude shown by the asst. Manager of Raj Restaurant, Syed Alwi Road. This was supported and favoured by the New Sr. Manager which increased my dissatisfaction.
Since Raj was opened 8yrs back we r regular customers and in fact we have held a lots of parties and gatherings in your restaurant with the help of ur then friendly staff but for the past 3years, ever since that Asst. manager was appointed we have stopped going because of his arrogant behaviour. In fact many of my friends and relatives stopped using the services because of him.
Today we went to the restaurant exactly at 3pm just to find that the kitchen was closed. We requested the lady waitress if it can be arranged and she very humbly said she would talk to the manager because the meals were still being served.
But when the Asst. Manager came to us with a frown and stern attitude and we requested if the meal can be served which he said rudely," Kitchen is closed."
So, I told him its ok but we r a regular customer since I'm here in Singapore to which he replied very harshly that this restaurant was only 8 yrs old how can u come since the time u r here and he walked away with lots of attitiude and a mock on his face.
Still, looking at the sweet attitude of one of the waitress we ordered some chat. When the food came to our table we just could not eat after such a insult and went ahead to pay off and told him he should not behave like this with his customers ....its rude and against the hospitality rules, to which he raised his hands and fingers to explain to me.
Being a lady i expected a decent and hospitable attitude from a gentleman standing infront especially to whom I am paying for the services.
We left the food on the table untouched, which we paid for and left the restaurant. Before leaving we sought help from the new Sr. Manager who was then enjoying his meal and did not have the courtesy to stand up or ask us to sit down for discussion.this is an example of a courtesy and decency of a restaurant manager in Singapore?
According to him its ok and its his habit to talk like this and left us standing there lost while he went to wash his hands.
We should not let such indecent behaviour take its course and set a bad example. We must spread out and stop such unprofessional behaviour.
Thanks & Regards, Sanchaita Banerjee

Firstly, let me say that I am a very patient and level-headed person. I do not take offense easily, but what happened at Raj was shocking and beyond patience.
My wife and I had ordered a number of items for lunch. One of them was "Butter Paneer". When the food arrived, instead of the paneer, we got "Butter Vegetables". We were calm and gently asked one of the waiters to replace it with what was ordered.
We didn't sound like we were complaining or even remotely angry about it. We didn't even question him or anything! We were happily chatting with our friend, whom we were entertaining. We thought it's not a big deal and these mistakes happen and it will be replaced.
As we waited for the right dish to arrive, the waiter who had taken the order came to us and started arguing that we had ordered wrongly. This was not the case as I had repeated my order very clearly.
And, unbelievably, the waiter argued with us continuously. We said that we are not annoyed by the wrong order, but he uncontrollably argued with my wife about this.
I really felt it was excessively rude. And he was not even listening to me and it started looking like a 'fight' with my wife. I lost it completely and asked him to stop shouting at us and call the manager. Then one ugly fat man comes to us and asks me to stop talking rudely with the damn waiter!!!
Aghast! I mean have they heard of anything called customer service and basic courtesy! Now, we had two people shouting at us and we really shouted back as well. We would have walked out, but we were entertaining a friend and stayed put. A couple around us heard us well and also agreed that these peoples' behavior was unacceptable.
For the rest of the lunch, the service was completely screwed up and when we asked for the bill...they literally threw the bill at us!
Even more, when we walked out, the waiter came out and tried to incite me to get into a fight or something, so that they could call the police or something. (I say this because I had heard them murmur about getting the police).
Well, if you have read so far, think twice or thrice before going there. Especially, if you are getting family or friends there. YOU NEVER KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO ARGUE RUDELY WITH YOUR SPOUSE OR LOVED ONE!
