Circular Road, just behind Boat Quay

You look like you’re waiting for something…
Yes I am – I’m waiting for my students to arrive. I’m teaching a hot yoga class upstairs in ten minutes.

Oh, you’re a hot yoga instructor. Without wishing to offend, you don’t look quite like the stereotypical image of a hot yogi…
Really? [Laughs] It must be the pants I’m wearing. Teachers of hot yoga usually wear as little as possible because of the heat. But here I am in my fisherman pants… You see I recently gave birth to my daughter and I feel more comfortable wearing fisherman pants to teach for now.

Congratulations on being a new mum! What’s her name?
Sasha. We named her after DJ Sasha.

The British superstar DJ?
Yup, he’s part of our lives! My partner and I first met at Zouk when DJ Sasha was playing. Then it was after attending ZoukOut! together a few years later when we started dating. Again, DJ Sasha was there. When he last played in Singapore, I passed him a letter telling him about our child’s name. When he read it he was all smiles and gave the thumbs up. That was super-most awesomeness!

Clubbing and yoga seem like such different worlds. Aren’t yoga instructors supposed to be all clean and New Age?
Hey, I don’t binge-drink or do drugs or crazy stuff. Yoga is all about balance. Of course you live a clean, healthy life and keep your discipline but then you also need an outlet – mine’s going out with friends and hanging out. Moderation is the key.

I notice the tattoo on your back – what does it represent?
Those are the eyes of Buddha. It’s a Nepalese symbol and I’ve had it for 12 years. I’m not a Buddhist and I don’t have any particular religion, but I do have my own spirituality. I believe that there is a supreme being watching over all of us. I guess you can say the tattoo represents my spiritual side.
